Accessibility Statement

Willow & Birch, LLC is committed to ensuring that willowandbirch.org is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is not an afterthought for us — our mission centers on serving seniors and the families who care for them, a community that frequently relies on assistive technology to navigate the web.

Our Standard

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA — the most current published standard from the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. WCAG 2.2 AA is also backward-compatible with WCAG 2.1 AA, the benchmark cited in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Title II ADA ruling.

We evaluate our site against all four WCAG principles: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust.

What We Have Done

The following measures have been implemented across the Site:

• Keyboard navigation — every interactive element is fully operable by keyboard. Tab order is logical, and focus is always visible.
• Screen reader support — semantic HTML landmarks, ARIA roles, states, and live regions are used throughout. Dynamic content (search results, drawer counts, form errors) is announced automatically.
• Skip navigation — a “Skip to main content” link is the first element in the page, allowing keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation.
• Color contrast — all text meets the 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio. Interactive UI component borders meet the 3:1 Non-text Contrast requirement (WCAG 1.4.11).
• Accessible forms — all form inputs have visible labels, error messages are announced to screen readers via live regions, and invalid fields are programmatically identified.
• Focus management in modals — when a dialog opens, focus moves into it and is contained within until closed. Closing a dialog returns focus to the element that triggered it.
• Tab widget pattern — the checklist section tabs follow the ARIA tab pattern: arrow keys navigate between tabs, and Tab moves into the active panel.
• Reduced motion — all animations and transitions are suppressed for users who have enabled “Reduce Motion” in their operating system settings.
• Decorative images — purely decorative icons and SVGs are hidden from assistive technology. Meaningful images have descriptive alternative text.
• Heading hierarchy — headings follow a logical, sequential structure to support screen reader navigation.
• Spam-prevention accessibility — hidden anti-bot form fields are removed from assistive technology using both display:none and aria-hidden, not merely styled invisible, so screen reader users never encounter them. The Cloudflare Turnstile challenge used on our Contact, Intake, and Connect forms is a third-party component designed by Cloudflare to be keyboard- and screen-reader-operable, and sits within our existing modal focus traps without disrupting native tab order.

Accessibility Tools

The Site includes the EqualWeb accessibility widget, which provides users with on-demand tools such as high contrast mode, text size adjustment, cursor enhancement, reading guides, and more. The widget can be activated using the accessibility icon on the left side of the screen.

Known Limitations

We are not aware of any current barriers to access. One area we continue to monitor:

• Sticky navigation and focus visibility (WCAG 2.4.11) — the fixed navigation bar may partially overlap a focused element when scrolling via keyboard in certain browsers. We are monitoring this and will address it if confirmed.

• Modern browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge (current and one prior major version)
• Screen readers: NVDA + Chrome, JAWS + Chrome or Edge, VoiceOver + Safari (macOS and iOS)
• Keyboard-only navigation
• 200% browser zoom without loss of content or functionality
• Mobile devices (iOS and Android) with platform accessibility features enabled

Review Process

This statement reflects an internal, manual accessibility self-assessment completed in June 2026, covering all HTML, CSS, and JavaScript across the Site. Our review included manual keyboard navigation testing, semantic HTML inspection, ARIA attribute verification, color contrast measurement, and screen reader behavior checks. A follow-up review in July 2026 covered accessibility of the spam-prevention additions made since (Cloudflare Turnstile challenges and hidden anti-bot fields). An August 2026 review confirmed the EqualWeb accessibility widget’s on-demand tools are working as intended. We review and update this statement after any significant site update.
